FATE 2.0 -When Luck Overpowered Mistake

Back when we talk about success, we usually debate between hard work and smart work. But sometimes, there’s another invisible factor at play—luck.

This is a story from 2011, when luck quietly covered up a mistake I didn’t even realize I had made.

In 2011, I had just completed my 12th grade and was preparing to step into the world of engineering. At that time, exams like IIT-JEE and AIEEE were the biggest gateways to engineering colleges.

Unlike today, the internet wasn’t easily accessible. Cybercafés were the go-to places for anything online. To fill out the AIEEE application form, two of my friends and I decided to visit a cybercafé.

Fortunately, my brother owned one, so we went there.

While filling out the form, we came across a field asking for a “mailing address.” we made a classic mistake—we entered our email addresses instead of our residential addresses. At that moment, we didn’t even realize it was wrong.

Time passed, and as the exam date approached, we still hadn’t received our admit cards.

We were confused but not overly worried, since many students were facing the same issue. The alternative was to download a provisional admit card online and submit an undertaking at the exam center. That’s exactly what we did—we appeared for the exam without ever realizing our mistake.

When the results came out, I checked my marks online. My rank wasn’t good enough, so I decided to take a drop year and prepare again for AIEEE.

I didn’t think I would need the physical marksheet, assuming the online version would be enough. With that mindset, I joined Resonance in Kota for preparation. During admission, they asked for the original marksheet to avail a scholarship. That’s when I realized—I didn’t have it. I tried convincing them to accept a soft copy, but they refused. Left with no option, I took admission and continued my preparation, planning to pay the fees in installments.

I joined the evening batch and flipped my routine—sleeping during the day and studying at night.

Meanwhile, I kept receiving calls from an unknown number during office hours. Because of my schedule, I ignored them.

Whenever I called back in the evening, no one answered. This went on for almost 2–3 weeks.

One day, while I was home, I decided to call the number in the afternoon. This time, the call was answered. The person on the other end sounded irritated and asked why I hadn’t been picking up his calls. I explained that I had been calling back in the evenings, but he hadn’t responded. He snapped, saying it was a landline number and he worked during the day—of course he wouldn’t answer in the evening. Then came the turning point.

He told me to come and collect my marksheet. When I reached his office, the scolding continued, this time face-to-face. He even mentioned that he had tried contacting me via email—but as they say, Samay se pehle aur kismat se zyada, na kabhi mila hai na milega.

Finally, he handed me my marksheet. That one moment changed everything. I was able to submit it at Resonance and secure my scholarship.

Looking back, it wasn’t just about hard work or smart work. Sometimes, even your mistakes are corrected by fate—just at the right time.

P.S. Thoughts and experience is original, languange and pics outsourced.

I Had written one more blog on fate. Give it a try….
